KOTA KINABALU (TUESDAY): Several days of continuous rainfall have triggered floods in parts of Sabah’s interior, including the villages of Kampung Kuala Puntih and Kampung Mempulut in the Sook district. As of now, two Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) have been activated at SK Pekan Keningau I and SK Pekan Keningau II, sheltering a total of 232 displaced residents.

In response, the Institute for Development Studies (Sabah), (IDS), in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Kembara Kitchen and CIMB Foundation, deployed its Disaster Monitoring Hub (D-Hub) team to the affected areas on 15 April 2025 to deliver immediate relief to those affected.

This effort is a continuation of IDS’s commitment to carrying out humanitarian aid initiatives across Sabah. Previously, IDS extended flood relief assistance to several districts, including Pitas and Kota Marudu in March, as well as to Beaufort on two separate occasions in February and March 2025. Keningau District made history as the first location to receive D-Hub assistance this year, through a mission carried out on 5 February.

As part of the current response, 40 boxes of ready-to-eat meals, branded as Hero Meals, were distributed to evacuees at the designated PPS and other affected locations.

IDS remains committed to closely monitoring the flood situation and will continue working hand-in-hand with strategic partners and relevant agencies to coordinate timely support and ensure that the needs of affected communities are addressed.

IDS acknowledges and appreciates the ongoing efforts of its partners and the wider community in supporting those affected by the floods.
