TUARAN, 3 April 2025 (Thursday) – The Borneo Grassroots Entrepreneur Tour Program & DAYANG Initiative came to a close with an energetic and highly celebrated closing event at Hero’s Bar Restaurant, Tuaran. The program, organized by the Institute for Development Studies (Sabah), (IDS) in collaboration with Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC), toured ten districts in Sabah, targeting young grassroots women entrepreneurs to strengthen local economic networks.
Over the course of two weeks, the program successfully brought together more than 100 young women entrepreneurs from the districts of Papar, Sook, Kalabakan, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Beluran, Telupid, Ranau, Pitas, and Tuaran. Participants engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions, entrepreneurship workshops, and dialogues with local business communities.
The closing event in Tuaran also attended by 60 local youths, who shared their insights and suggestions on improving entrepreneurial competitiveness at the community level. The positive response reflected their strong interest and commitment to grassroots economic development.
One of the key successes of the program was the positive response to the Empowering Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs (DAYANG) Initiative, introduced in the Sabah State Budget 2025. This initiative provides young women entrepreneurs with access to financing through SCC, as well as training and mentorship to enhance their resilience and competitiveness in the business world.
Chief Executive Officer of IDS, Datuk Ts. Dr. Ramzah Dambul, stated, “This initiative is not just about sharing information, but about building direct connections with the community. The enthusiastic response across district proves the importance of continuing programs like this.”
IDS remains committed to bridging the economic gap between urban and rural areas, creating more equitable and inclusive entrepreneurial opportunities. As the program concludes, IDS hopes that the entrepreneurial spirit fostered will continue to grow, driving positive change in local communities.
