EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN SABAH: WOMEN’S POWER, ECONOMIC POWER

23rd APRIL 2025

KOTA KINABALU (WEDNESDAY): The Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) (IDS), in collaboration with the Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) and the Beaufort District Office, will be organising the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs in Sabah: Women’s Power, Economic Power programme on Saturday, 26 April 2025, at Dewan Pa’ Musa, Beaufort.

The programme is part of the ongoing Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs initiative, themed Let the Journey Begin, which was officially launched on 26 February 2025. A strategic partnership between IDS and SCC, the initiative aims to broaden access to funding, mentorship, training, and marketing strategies, in line with the state’s commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment.

Core objectives include establishing networks for aspiring entrepreneurs, raising awareness of available business support, and enhancing digital literacy among rural women.

IDS Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ts. Dr. Ramzah Dambul, in a statement today, said that “Empowering young women through entrepreneurship is a sustainable development strategy for the state of Sabah. Through this programme, IDS is working to build an inclusive support ecosystem that encourages local innovation and nurtures a new generation of capable, knowledgeable, and forward-thinking women entrepreneurs.”

He added that this holistic approach not only opens up opportunities for learning and collaboration, but also contributes meaningfully to Sabah’s broader socio-economic progress.

The programme is expected to serve as a catalyst for rural entrepreneurial development, particularly among young women, aligning with Sabah’s aspirations for a more inclusive, progressive, and sustainable economy.
